Abigail Delawder5th YEAR GRADUATE STUDENT
NSF GRFP FELLOW Abby was born in Columbia, MD and was raised in Springfield, MO. In 2016, she graduated from Drury University with a B.S. in Chemistry. Her undergraduate research experience started with Dr. Madhuri Manpadi at Drury, which centered on finding novel heterocyclic compounds with the potential application to cancer therapeutics. During the summer of 2015, she worked with Dr. Matthew D. Disney at The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, FL through the NSF-REU program. Her work, under the mentorship of Dr. Suzanne Rzuczek, focused on synthesizing compounds that would bind to cytotoxic strands of microRNA associated with neurodegenerative diseases and in particular, Myotonic Dystrophy Type I. In May of 2016, she received the American Chemical Society Division of Organic Chemistry Outstanding Senior Organic Chemistry Student Award. In her free time, she enjoys catching up on her favorite reality shows and a rather uncommon hobby: bowling.
