Outreach

The Barnes group is deeply committed to the education and training of the next generation of scientists, engineers, and medical professionals. We believe interest in STEM starts at a young age.  This is why we are very active in connecting with elementary and middle schools in the St. Louis area to do outreach (both on and off campus) and engage with the general public. Our efforts have mainly focused on i) developing an innovative outreach program in collaboration with the St. Louis Chess Club and Jennings Junior High School in Jennings, MO, ii) creating research opportunities for high school men and women and underrepresented minorities from St. Louis, iii) developing a new course-based undergraduate research experience for CHE 452 (an upper-level course about Synthetic Polymer Chemistry), and iv) creating additional research opportunities for undergraduate/graduate women and URMs.
