8th Samuel Weissman LectureOctober 4-5th, 2018
We're deeply honored to have had the opportunity to host 2016 Chemistry Nobel Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart (Northwestern University) for the 8th Samuel Weissman Memorial Lectures! As expected, Fraser delivered two fantastic talks on the two year anniversary of winning the Chem Nobel!!

Packard MEeting 2018September 5-9th, 2018
Jonathan attends his first Packard Fellows meeting in Coronado, CA at the famous Hotel del Coronado. This meeting also coincided with the 30th anniversary reunion of the program and was attended by 250+ from previous generations of Packard Fellows and capped off by THE Alan Alda (yes, that one from M*A*S*H)! It was great to interact with so many Fellows from diverse backgrounds and to have the opportunity to discuss our work on photoredox-responsive artificial molecular muscles!!

Foresight InstituteMay 5-6th, 2018
Jonathan co-chairs the Foresight Institute workshop at WashU with 2016 Chemistry Nobel Laureate, Fraser Stoddart. Barnes group members also participated in the workshop and 2nd year grad students Nate Colley and Abby Delawder give the proposal pitch to the workshop for their respective teams.

Members of the Barnes group (Jonathan, Angel, and Abby) visited Hope College for their inaugural Schaap Chemistry Symposium. It was another great opportunity to present our work and to interact with so many talented undergraduate and graduate researchers! Jonathan visited the University of Nottingham in England to attend 'A Golden Age for Chemistry' conference, which celebrated 50 years of Stoddart chemistry. It was a great privilege to see so many familiar faces and to meet many members of the extended Stoddart family from generations past!! Thank you David Amabalino for hosting!!!

Jonathan was invited by the Department of Psychology to be the keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Student Research Conference at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). Many thanks to Prof.'s Scott Brandhorst and Laura Delgado, as well as the student committee, for hosting Jonathan and organizing such an amazing multi-disciplinary conference full of great student presenters!

Abby Receives GAANN FellowshipJanuary 4th, 2017
Congratulations to Abby Delawder, a first-year graduate student in the Barnes group who was selected to receive a GAANN Fellowship sponsored by the Department of Education! Only six of these multi-year fellowships were available for this year's class of graduate students in the Department of Chemistry at Washington University, so her selection is quite the achievement. Congrats again Abby!!

2016 Nobel Prize in ChemistryOctober 5th, 2016
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has selected Sir J. Fraser Stoddart (Prof. Barnes' PhD advisor), Jean-Pierre Sauvage, and Ben Feringa to receive the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for the design and synthesis of molecular machines"!!! These three amazing chemists deserve this recognition not only for their contributions to science, but also for their class and professionalism which they have exhibited over the past five decades. Congratulations all around!!!
