Mary Danielson4th YEAR GRADUATE STUDENT
Mary grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and is currently in her fourth year at WashU as an undergrad. She’s a double major studying Creative Writing and Chemistry. She spent her freshman summer as a member of the Summer Scholars in Biology and Biomedical Research working in Dr. Welch’s lab at the Washington University School of Medicine (June-August 2014). The summer after her freshman year she transferred to Dr. Beirut’s lab at the School of Medicine studying the genetics of smoking and later the genetics of breast cancer in African American women (June 2015-August 2016). Mary is excited to be a new member of Dr. Jonathan Barnes’ lab and hopes to gain a thorough understanding of both laboratory technique and theory as she heads toward a career in science. She enjoys working through organic mechanisms and researching and creating her own syntheses. In her spare time, Mary likes to write short stories and read Jane Austen novels.
