Nate is a native of Staunton, IL.  He graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2016 with honors and received a B.S. in Chemistry. He participated in undergraduate research under Dr. Lichang Wang and contributed to several research projects with the goal of improving organic and dye-sensitized solar cells, which was the focus of his thesis. In the summer of 2014, he conducted research under Dr. Adam Whalley at the University of Vermont through the Complex Materials REU program. During the summer of 2015, he worked as an engineering intern at Carus Corporation through the ACS Society of Chemical Industry Scholar program. ​​
